The Broughton Instrumental Program is partnering with the Athens Drive Band Program to commission a new piece of band music in honor of our former principal, Steve Mares. Mr. Mares served the Broughton community for over 16 years as principal at Joyner Elementary, Oberlin Middle (formerly Daniels), and Broughton. He was a HUGE supporter of our programs, even after leaving Broughton. He went to serve Athens Drive to help their community heal after the sudden loss of their principal in 2016. Since serving there, he has been a constant supporter of their band program. Dr. Markoch and I thought a piece of music to honor his time and commitment would be a great way to say 'Thank You' to one of the most supportive administrators out there!
The piece will be premiered on Thursday, December 14th at the Athens Drive Winter Concert in the Athens auditorium. We will have a combined group of students from Athens Drive Wind Ensemble, and the Broughton Wind Ensemble to share the piece with Mr. Mares that evening. We would love for you to come and hear it! Concert starts at 7!
If you would like to donate towards the cost of the commission (Broughton's individual goal is $2000), you can do so by clicking the link below! Be sure to note that your donation is for "Mr. Mares Composition"
