Broughton Concert Bands
We offer two concert ensembles that include standard band instrumentation. Students are placed into these ensembles by level as determined by a placement audition. The Concert Band features Beginning through Proficient level players and our Wind Ensemble features Proficient and Advanced/IB musicians, and requires an additional audition. Both bands perform two concerts each year, and our Wind Ensemble has an additional performance at our state MPA event. Members of these ensembles often participate in All District and All State Honor Bands, and form small chamber groups that play for other school and community events. |
Broughton Orchestra
The Broughton String Orchestra includes musicians at the Intermediate, Proficient and Advanced/IB level. This ensemble requires that you have prior string playing experience before entering, and levels are determined by placement audition. Students in our Orchestra perform three concerts each year at school as well as our state MPA event each spring. Our chamber strings groups perform frequently at community and school events. Members of this ensemble also often members of the Eastern Region Honor Orchestra and the NC All State Honors Orchestra. |

Broughton Jazz
The Broughton Jazz program consists of two active Jazz Bands. Both bands are made up of students that are also members of our concert or orchestral programs and audition for placement into these ensembles. Jazz Band offers students who are new to jazz an opportunity to learn jazz style and basic improvisation skill while learning standard repertoire. Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned ensemble that plays for many school events on top of our regular concert series. Students in this ensemble also create jazz combos that represent Broughton at many events throughout Raleigh. We have been fortunate to have students participate in the Central Region All Region Jazz Band, the NC All State Jazz Band and even the All National Jazz Band. |
The Broughton High School
Marching Capitals Our marching band is an extracurricular performing group that serves our larger school community throughout the fall. The Marching Band is open to ANY band or music student that would like to join us. We use standard marching band instrumentation and invite those who are interested to join the color guard to help us bring to life our fall show and entertain crowds at our home football games, and area parades. The Broughton Marching Band is the only marching band to have performed in every Raleigh Christmas Parade, and has even been a two time performer at the International Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California (2008, 2012). We often perform at festivals around the Southeast, most recently performing at Epcot Center in Disney World. Our marching students practice after school through October, and perform at football games, and athletic and community events throughout the city. Their 2019 fall field show featured the music of legendary rock band, Queen! We are already in the planning stages for the 2021 show, and would love to have new members join us!
